Standing Charges:
3.3.5.1 The Library Sabbatical Leave and Post-Tenure Review Committee shall review and evaluate the merit of each applicant for sabbatical leave and of his or her proposal. It shall notify each applicant in writing of its recommendation and shall forward each recommendation to the Dean of Libraries, who will review and evaluate the merit of the applicants and their proposal before transmittal to the Provost for referral to the University Committee on Sabbatical Leaves for evaluation (see 8.1.1-8.2.7 of the Faculty Senate Rules and Regulations).
3.3.5.2 The Library Sabbatical Leave and Post-Tenure Review Committee shall address itself to matters of policy pertaining to the sabbatical leave system and report its recommendations to the Dean.
3.3.5.3 The Library Sabbatical Leave and Post-Tenure Review Committee shall review the qualifications and performance of all members of the Library Faculty who are scheduled to be evaluated for Post-Tenure Review. Once the Library Sabbatical Leave and Post-Tenure Review Committee completes its review, a copy will be shared with the faculty member, who may submit a written response for inclusion in the file before it is forwarded to the Dean of Libraries.
3.3.5.4 The first meeting of each year shall be called by the Library Faculty and Professionals Assembly Executive Committee no later than the first week of August; the first order of business shall be to select a presiding officer and a recording secretary.
Standing Charges Progress/Accomplishment Summary:
- There were no sabbatical files to review in fall 2023. The committee used that time to review the process, so continuing members will be able to successfully evaluate files after the senior members rotate off the committee.
- SLPTR held an open post-tenure-review meeting for the Libraries in fall 2023. The committee reviewed two post-tenure-review files in early 2024.
Special Charges:
none
Special Charges Progress/Accomplishment Summary:
none
Other Activities or Accomplishments:
- We asked for and received a secure shared drive similar to LCPT’s O:\ drive for longer term storage of committee documentation.
Potential Charges for Future Committees/Recommendations:
- Libraries HR provides the committee with candidates’ annual evaluations as part of the post-tenure-review process. However, Mike was not able to locate evaluations for all the years under review for either candidate. As a result, it was difficult to form the most complete picture of our colleagues’ work when the PTR file did not contain all the required evaluations. There seems to be a breakdown in the submission of annual evaluations that should be addressed for this committee’s work and for other purposes.
Please review the Committee’s portion of the Library Governance website and the Code. Does it need updating/correcting?
