EXECUTIVE BOARD MEETING MINUTES
January 24, 2020
Present
• Paul Thomas
• Scott Cossel
• Matt Torres
• Chris Banuelos
• Rhonda Houser
Absent
• Chris Bohling
Opening:
Meeting commenced at 1:02pm
Topics and Updates:
• Staff Development Day
o Providing food and beverages were common comments from last year’s feedback ▪ Pepsi products – request needs to be 3 weeks in advance – can supply more items, but need funding – Paul will speak to Dean Smith about funding from the Libraries
o Staff Development Day date:
▪ Last year the event took place on the Wednesday of spring break.
▪ Proposal to push the event to mid-May
• Consensus is May 20th, as this would provide more access and
attendance for staff (intersession)
▪ Date would coincide with elections; could drum up support at the event.
▪ LSA should inquire about low-cost/no-cost gifts of appreciation (such as gift cards)
o Snacks (ice cream!) provided by Dean Smith and the Libraries? Paul and Chris Bohling will explore with the Dean.
o Chair massages are popular among students during stress-busting events held by Watkins.
o Additional sessions for professional development
▪ Some staff last year stated they want to see what other people in the Libraries are working on currently.
• Chris Banuelos would do a digital reproduction session
• Katie(?) from campus HR could explore ergonomic ideas
• A session on revising one’s resume or CV (Lars Leon or Sharon Riley), or
perhaps Mike Broadwell hold a session about advancing in your position
instead
• Session by KU Press regarding the publication process
• Libraries’ Scholarly Communications Office (Josh Bolick) could hold a
presentation as well
• Matt Torres could hold a presentation about Microsoft Teams
• Yoga is always popular
o Event location
▪ Watson and Memorial Union are both options
• If the event is held in the Union, do they have space during summer
given other events?
• Watson might be a better option if space allows
o If LSA has a pool of money, holding it in Watson would allow for
more food as there would be no event space fees
o Watson would also provide greater space flexibility
o People want to see basic agenda before event
o Paul will create a query to send to staff for feedback
