COMMITTEE UPDATES
Code and Bylaws – from Marla
The Committee for Code and Bylaws met and chose officers. They discussed the special charge the previous year’s LFSA had given them that had not been prioritized this year. They will wait to see if they are needed for any other charges.
Update from Leah: After the meeting, Sherri Brown discovered there should have been a special charge to edit the code document to reflect a document name change. So every instance of ‘Discipline Expectations for Library Faculty at KU’ in the Code should be replaced by ‘Promotion and Tenure Procedures for the Faculty of The University of Kansas Libraries.’ Sherri will come to the LFSA Exec. meeting scheduled for 10/6/17 and discuss this.
Organizational Development – from Marla
Lars led a brainstorming session – thinking about the 2 year focus map. If we want the outcome to be happy patrons, what do we do to get to that end goal? Also there was some discussion on meeting effectiveness. Sharon Riley is pulling together some strategies to send out. They mentioned KULSA is looking to do more social activities. General discussion thinking it would be good to get staff who have hobbies and activities in common aware of who does what. Some discussion on reviving ‘Who’s Who in KU Libraries.’
Could this also be done with Nate Chamberlin + Delve?
GOVERNANCE AND LUNCH
Governance will host lunch for new faculty, and now we’ll have the opportunity to do something similar with staff. Once a year or every 6 months, Governance Executive board will hold a box lunch in 455 for new staff. This should be a good opportunity for them to learn about governance and ask questions in a setting that isn’t too administration-heavy.
LSA WEBSITE
Leah Hallstrom, Greta Valentine, and Marla Schleuder met Thursday, September 21, 2017 to add content and information to the (previously empty) LSA Web page. It was generally well received by the group. There was some discussion about the calendar and the feedback form. No one has ever actually
used the feedback form. Chris thought it would be good to add LSA Exec names to the LSA page rather than just having them on the LSA Exec page. He said this would be helpful in providing people with faces rather than just abstract concepts. There was some discussion regarding the governance structure between LSA and LSA Executive Committee vs. the webpage structure representing these groups, and that it does lend to the confusion. The main LFSA page should probably serve as a landing page for all of governance – we plan to bring this up this coming Friday, 10/6/17 at the LFSA meeting.
Leah: Are there any other ideas for the LSA Web page? If so email her
Chris: Feedback form: Maybe we should include some examples to show what is considered appropriate feedback for such a form. Generally, this was considered a good idea, but no one could think of any examples to use.
DEPARTMENT LEVEL GOVERNANCE PROMOTION
…which will be discussed again this coming Friday at the LFSA Executive meeting. We should probably figure out how to cover each department. The idea is to reach out on a department level to explain what governance is and what we do, etc. We want to make sure everybody knows being on a committee is okay, and service is considered part of your job, too. Covering each department can help new staff understand what there is to be done, how they can get involved, etc.
Got ideas for something you want to see in this pro-governance blurb? Email Leah.
Chris moved to adjourn, Leah seconded.
