LSA Executive Committee
April 6, 2017
Present:
Ann Snow, Greta Valentine, Leah Hallstrom, Sunita Gandhi, Sharon Riley Guest: Brian Moss
Approval of meeting minutes
∙ Approved March 1 minutes as written
Discussion of tuition assistance survey
∙ Distributed the survey; had approximately 61 responses. Ready to pass this on to admin. ∙ Andrea Pitt is a member of the University HR committee on this issue
∙ E-mail from the Provost’s office indicated HR would be seeking more funding sources; is currently accepting applications for summer 2017
∙ Compile survey results as well as all comments and share with Library Admin
LSA exec elections
∙ Elections need to be completed by May 17
∙ For representatives: hold another election, add names of those interested in continuing
Overall governance elections
∙ Liaisons checked with committee members to confirm vacancies
May meeting conflict
∙ Greta to reschedule meeting so employees can attend Territorial Kansas presentation
Orientation mentors
∙ Brainstormed ideas for recruiting new mentors, raising awareness of program ∙ Currently have 8; need some more
∙ Main responsibility is a tour, answering questions, taking the new hire out to lunch, and telling them about Libraries governance
∙ Talked about mentioning it at the beginning of research sharing forum
∙ Could also ask people who are relatively new (about 1 year) to see if they would be willing since they have a sense of what questions a new hire would have
∙ Thinking about a place to put this information on the Libraries website to refer people to regarding responsibility
Campus climate study
∙ Thought the number of people who had indicated they thought of leaving the University was noteworthy
∙ Noted that concealed carry may be a contributing factor
∙ Ann brought up proposed faculty union on campus, which included a list of issues they felt weren’t being addressed, which may be a response to the report
∙ If/when Libraries get our own aggregate results, could we share a summary with Libraries? ∙ At SenEx someone brought up unconfirmed issue of Rankin sending data to OIRP at KU and having OIRP perform aggregate anonymizing/analysis; SenEx looking into this. Brian to keep LSA Exec informed
Other Business:
∙ Brian updated the group on USS Handbook availability via Policy Library. Concern was raised that staff need something more navigable for items like this
∙ Due to Ann raising this issue in University Senate, Personnel Affairs committee working with HR to put together a more intuitive handbook
Action Items
∙ Greta and Leah: compile survey results and share them with Kevin
∙ Leah and Marianne: bring up climate survey results with Kevin in next meeting
∙ Greta: Reschedule May LSA Exec meeting
