LSA Exec - Minutes - October 5, 2023

Minutes from the Library Staff Assembly Executive Committee

October 5, 2023

Attending: Eric Bader, Brian Moss, Meredith Phares, Marianne Reed, Shelby Schellenger, Justin Sextro

MEETING MINUTES

  • Discuss agenda and scheduling of the General Assemblies

  • All agreed that Dean Carol Smith would be welcome to attend and speak at the LFA general assembly.

  • Marianne asked if the question of changing the code to prefer rather than require USS positions on certain LFSA committees should be mentioned at the General Assembly. She suggested introducing the issue at the General Assembly, with work to occur over the coming year and the vote to approve in 2024.

  • Staff development: Marianne suggested taking an informal poll to see if people would prefer one day or several days for the staff development event.

  • Meredith reported on her work planning the event thus far. She talked to staff groups, who requested the possibility of job shadowing. November is Staff Development Month, so it would be good to have an event then.

  • For selecting potential development webinars, Meredith suggested handing out a list and letting people mark the ones they want. Eric said he would prefer a Qualtrics poll, which would reduce the labor of someone needing to count all of the marked pages. Marianne suggested a combination of both, where staff can return the printed page or just email their preferences to Meredith.

  • Group agreed to take 20 minutes at the General Assembly for a brief introduction to the staff development topic by Meredith, followed by opening the floor to general discussion. Then, schedule a followup meeting a week or so afterwards to delve deeper, for any staff who are interested.

  • Meredith mentioned a trick-or-treat event at the North Gallery on October 31, with support from Beth Whittaker. She suggested adding a staff costume contest. LSA will lend support to the event.
