MEETING MINUTES
Introduction of new members
- Words of wisdom from outgoing members
Marianne believes it is a good time to be in governance. The Dean is supportive of staff and especially talent development
The group discussed ideas to bring to Dean in the coming year:
General concerns raised by staff
Ideas for talent development
Concerns about salaries and benefits
Orientation to the website
Eric showed the process of uploading the meeting minutes to the Teams site and where they can be found
The group reviewed the code and bylaws and how to navigate to them from the LFSA website
Marianne noted that the Talent Development webpage needs to be updated with new travel procedures that will take effect soon. Keeping this page updated will be a standing charge for LSA
Brian mentioned that he is hoping to have a link to governance webpages on main library site menu, under the “about” section. The Dean agreed to this in principle some time ago but may need to be reminded to get this changed
Talent development plans for next year
Brian stated that he hopes to create a dedicated LSA Talent Development committee to focus on talent development efforts specifically for staff
Other topics/Q&A
Marianne mentioned that she would like to have meeting announcements more visible, such as by sending reminders via KULIB-L.
Rebecca inquired about the upcoming planned trip to Kansas State University’s library. Marianne noted that planning this trip has taken longer than expected. The Dean has agreed in principle to pay the bus fee and K-State representatives have named July 11 and July 22 as potential dates for the visit. Marianne hopes to create a team to handle scheduling this trip before the end of her term on LSA.
The group discussed other items that are outstanding for the next group to consider:
The dwindling number of USS staff and how to deal with committees that require a USS member
KU Faculty unionization and how will it affect staff
Current and forthcoming cost-of-living raises for staff
