LSA Exec - Minutes - July 11, 2023

Minutes from the Library Staff Assembly Executive Committee 

  

July 11, 2023 

Attending: Eric Bader, Brian Moss, Meredith Phares, Marianne Reed, Shelby Schellenger, Justin Sextro  

  

MEETING MINUTES 

  

  • Welcome to the LSA Executive committee!  Self-introductions around the room. 

  • Use of LFSA website and LSA Teams site  

  • Group will use Teams site for sharing information.  Approved minutes will be given to the LFSA webmaster to go on the LFSA website. 

  • Appointments to LSA Committees  

  • The Committee voted to appoint Chris Bohling to the Senate Libraries Committee.  

  • Senate Libraries Committee is also required to have a USS member. Consideration of removing this requirement, which will necessitate a change to the Code. Amendment to the Code will allow a “right of first refusal” to USS staff before other staff are considered for the committee.  

  • Action: Marianne will speak to Owen Murphy about the vacant LFSA webmaster position. 

  • Will vote by email on the two Code and Bylaws Committee vacancies in the coming weeks. Victoria Williams, Christen Caton, and Owen Murphy are volunteers. Marianne has volunteered to be LFSA liaison. 

  • Discussion about special charges for the coming year:   

  • Tabled until August meeting. 

  • Discussion of approval of minutes 

  • Minutes will be uploaded to Teams site. Committee members will be free to refine if needed, provided they alert the other members of these changes.  

  • Priorities to bring to the Dean 

  • Clarify questions about governance structure. 

  • Consider discussing morale and the recent staff satisfaction survey. 

  • Professional development opportunities 

 

ACTION ITEMS FOR NEXT MEETING 

  • Marianne:  Speak to Owen Murphy about the vacant LFSA webmaster position. 

  • Meredith:  Research current status of salary table for discussion at next meeting. (Discuss student and staff salary issues) 

  • All:  Appoint staff USS rep to Senate Libraries (Debbra Peres) 

  • All:  Vote to put staff names forward to LFSA re: Committee on the Code(?) 

  • All: Discussion of special charges for the coming year. 

  • Revive Spring Staff Development Day 

  • All:  Building an agenda for the Fall General LSA meeting 

  • USS and Senate Libraries committee:  1st preference, but not required 

  • All: Discuss timing for future meetings.
