Minutes from the Library Staff Assembly Executive Committee 

January 4, 2024

MEETING MINUTES 

  • New member welcome 

  • The group welcomed Tiffany McIntosh, who is joining the committee after Justin Sextro left KU. 

  • Staff Development Resource Page 

  • The committee drafted an email to send out to seek volunteers for a staff development resource webpage. (Included next page)

Good morning!  Since many of us are returning from our winter break over the next few days, I wanted to send out a call for 3-4 volunteers to work on a Staff Development Resources page.  The goal is to have one place for Libraries staff to find information about how to request and get funding for staff development activities, such as conferences, workshops, etc. 

 

This page would not replace existing pages, but would supplement them.  The group’s job is to create the content, not to actually put it on the web, so CMS skills aren’t needed.   

 

It would be helpful if each listing would contain brief information about the resource, links to existing web pages, and contact information for people who have questions. 

 

Resources should include the following, at a minimum: 

  • Libraries’ process for requesting staff development/travel funding and a brief summary of the process, including what you need to proceed to the next step.  (On the Libraries’ Intranet?) 

  • Concur travel process 

  • If presenting at a conference, LRF funding 

  • Listing of some local conferences with links to each 

  • LinkedIn Learning opportunities to build skills on https://mytalent.ku.edu , Learning section 

  • Staff Development events sponsored by LSA 

  • Career coaching with Sharon Riley (confidential)  

  • KU Tuition Assistance, including library school at Emporia 

  • Dependent Tuition Assistance 

  • Certificates like DAS?   

  • Mental Health resources?? 

 

If you’re interested, please talk to your supervisor and let me know.  If there are more than 3-4 volunteers, LSA Exec will select the members of the committee.
