Minutes from the Library Staff Assembly Executive Committee
August 3, 2023
Attending: Eric Bader, Brian Moss, Meredith Phares, Marianne Reed, Shelby Schellenger, Justin Sextro
MEETING MINUTES
Committee voted to approve the minutes from the July meeting.
Meredith presented research on student salaries.
Students currently make between $11-$16 per hour, while the lowest-paid non-student employees make $18 per hour.
Marianne and Brian raised concern about salary compression with the Dean last month.
Brian reported that the university’s cost-of-living salary adjustment study was finished this spring, but they are now going to redo the analysis. It should be finished by January 2024.
Committee voted to appoint Debbra Peres as the USS representative on the Senate Libraries Committee.
Committee voted to move Christen Caton and Victoria Williams forward for consideration to the LFSA Committee on the Code.
Discussion of scheduling future meetings.
Meetings scheduled for the first Thursday of each month at 10 a.m.
Discussion of Docking Institute staff satisfaction survey
Discussion of special charges for the coming year.
May consider keeping tabs on the Docking survey and actions taken from it.
Ask about Spring Staff Development Day. Would one day or multiple dates over several months have better turnout?
Building an agenda for Fall General LSA meeting
Potential changes to the code regarding representation on the Staff Senate Libraries committee
Professional development: How best to empower staff to feel able to request funds. What are the barriers?
360 evaluations. Should staff be able to evaluate their supervisors?
ACTION ITEMS FOR NEXT MEETING
MEREDITH: Check the budget to see how many employees are in various salary brackets (under $40,000, etc.)
MARIANNE: Ask Mike Broadwell how many employees are making less than $40,000 per year.
BRIAN: Inform Victoria Williams that she will be recommended to LFSA for the Committee on the Code.
MARIANNE: Inform Christen Caton that she will be recommended to LFSA for the Committee on the Code.
BRIAN: Find out what is needed to make changes to who LSA sends to the Senate Libraries committee.
BRIAN AND MARIANNE: Talk to the Dean about 360 evaluations.
