April 4, 2024
Attending: Eric Bader, Tiffany McIntosh, Meredith Phares, Marianne Reed, Shelby Schellenger
Guests: Jeffrey Stolz, Paul Thomas
MEETING MINUTES
Jeff Stolz, KU's Mental Health and Wellbeing Director, joined to discuss a session/presentation for a potential staff development day. Potential topics include:
Overview of stress
Don’t worry: strategies to combat stress.
CBT: Breaking distorted patterns of thinking that lead to an unhealthy response to stress. About an hour
Supervisory training in STEP: Meant for supervisors but applies to everyone. Research suggests having an empathetic supervisor promotes mental well-being. Toxic work behavior is a leading contributor to burnout. Two hours
ALGEE: how to act in crisis situations
From aspiring leaders program: 8 dimensions of wellbeing and resources available on campus and in the community
Campus Connect: suicide awareness and prevention. Three hours. Jeff is trying to increase number of people receiving this training because it is a growing need. KU has a high percentage of student population that experiences suicidal thoughts
Jeff said he is also happy to cater something specific to the needs of this group.
Revised career development plan process
The group discussed the “Discovering Pathways for Talent Development” forms, which have been amended since the last discussion of this topic.
ACTION ITEMS
