LIBRARY FACULTY ASSEMBLY (LFA) EXECUTIVE MEETING MINUTES 2:30 pm July 23, 2020

Present: Angie Rathmel (vice-chair), Brian Rosenblum (chair), Scott McEathron (librarian), Elspeth Healey (associate librarian), Karna Younger (secretary)

  • Election review:
    • Brian reviewed names of people newly elected to LFA standing committees
  • Liaisons to standing committees designated
    • Sabbatical Leave and Post-Tenure Review (SLPTR) Committee: Scott McEathron
    • Library Committee for Promotion and Tenure (LCPT) Committee: Elspeth Healey
  • Review committee final reports, assign any new special charges
    • SLPTR: No special charges for the new year. Previous committee successfully updated documentation that needs to be uploaded to the governance website and offered no new recommendations.
    • LCPT: Based on FY20 LCPT committee’s suggested special charge, executive drafted the below special charge with the expected completion date of January 2021 to align with the PTTR/P&T calendar.
      • Discuss appropriateness of Libraries HR putting out a general voluntary call to past candidates to “opt in” to sharing their files (candidate-prepared documents only) as examples to help new candidates in preparing their files. LCPT’s discussions should consider potential legal/personnel problems and HR’s responsibility for keeping track of permissions.
      • Based on the 2019-2020 LFSA Web Taskforce Final Report and in consultation with the LFSA webmaster, LCPT should review and recommend procedures for archiving and accessing LCPT documents from previous years.
  • New business
    • LFA Chair report
      • Based on the 2019-2020 LFSA Web Taskforce Final Report, Brian reported Library Faculty and Staff Assembly (LFSA) Executive Committee plans to appoint an ad hoc webmaster position with plans to establish a permanent position once the LFSA body approves the position formally.
      • Unemployment Fraud Phishing Scam:
        • In earlier LFSA Executive Committee meeting, Library Staff Assembly (LSA) officer Mary Raple brought forth the concerns about KU and KU Libraries administrative responses to an identity theft and unemployment fraud scam affecting employees. Brian and Chris Bohling, LSA president, are drafting an email to Dean Kevin Smith about concerns regarding allowing employees to use work time to resolve related issues and other means of support.
      • Chair/Vice-Chair Meeting with KUL Dean on July 10
        • New Libraries Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee
          • Kevin provided brief update on the establishment of a new committee
          • Angie has learned from a separate conversation that it is now a steering committee designed to coordinate existing activities and track and manage communications. The committee also has a budget.
        • Kevin part of University Financial Recovery Design Team.
