- Approval of last meeting minutes
- Jill mentioned the issue of a misplaced application from a few weeks ago. Submission for funds somehow went to the wrong place and was not received by the committee. (Lars Leon application for KLA (Kansas Library Association)). It was suggested that it was received by a former committee member and the channels have not been updated. Jill will follow up on this to figure out what needs to be done to fix this so we can receive the applications in a timely manner
- NFRD (New Faculty Research Development) Award – Elspeth Healey suggested we list award recipients for project examples for other faculty within the libraries. We would need to send a survey or a call out to library faculty to gather that information. Phil offered to reach out directly to the NFRD to gather that information; ask for permission directly from the recipients to see if we can share their research as an example; and report back to CRSA.
- Deadline for the GRF (General Research Fund) and potential for workshop series for this fall.
- Suggestion to invite past recipients to come and share their experiences about how they used the funds and the type of projects they worked on.
- Amber suggested that we just have a general workshop on the diverse types of funding and how they can be utilized.
- Jill will also follow up with Gwen on her experience with accessing funding for incentives to be used for research participants. This element could help to provide information to other librarians who might want to use LRF (Library Research Fund) money in this way and what extra steps might be included. A mid-November time was suggested for offering a session that is a general overview of using these funds. LRF – Anytime application
- General Research Fund applications come to CRSA first and then are submitted to the Office of Research for Consideration. For example, if there are two major projects that are competing for a large amount of money that reaches the limits to what is allocated to the libraries ($6,000), we would have to review and submit before February 27 (date changes depending on the year). It is suggested that we change it to February 26 because it is a Monday.
- Phil & Jill will be CRSA co-chairs for this year.
- Regarding plans for workshops, Jill will look for a date in November for a general info session. There was also a suggestion of having faculty and staff who have had experience publishing books, editing, etc. to lead a panel on their experiences (Paul, Josh, Milton, Becky Schulte). This can wait until January when Josh returns from sabbatical.
- Suggestion for inviting Brian Rosenblum to share about his experience last year and how he used the funding for his research, schedule this in December.
- The meeting closed with an agreement to be in contact prior to the mid-November info session after Jill finds a suitable time to schedule the session/workshop.
