November 27, 2023

 

Attending:

Jill Becker, Jon Giullian, Phil Cunningham, Amber Ovsak, Paul Thomas 

  1. Approval of minutes from prior meeting.
  2. Recap of meeting from last week. Around 10 in attendance. Many in attendance were new librarians. There were questions about the GRF (General Research Fund) and whether the technology was appropriate. New Faculty Award (General Research Fund). Lots of good questions posed. GRF is limited to
  3. LRF Guidelines need to be reviewed by the new committee and Dean Carol Smith
  4. Potential Spring plans – creation of a flowchart to provide guidance on how to get access to different funds and when it is appropriate to submit applications for each
  5. Question about NFRD (New Faculty Research Development) for new faculty – Phil said he would contact someone and try to get answers.
  6. For December 6 panel discussion – Brian Rosenblum will talk about his experience. Some potential directing questions.
  • Tell us about your research project.
  • How did you come to this research and at what point did you know that you would need to ask for additional resources and funding?
  • Logistics of applying and what makes a successful application (Talk about IRB)
  • What is something you wish you had known before you began the application process?

(Jill will forward these questions to Brian and cc the rest of the committee)

  1.  Ideas for programming –
    1. Books and the process of publishing & researching (in the later Spring) Paul, Josh and Milton are colleagues to reach out to.
    2. Information refresher?
    3. Human Subjects Committee discussion & Human Research Protocol
    4. Research Workshop – Bring ideas and talk them through with other people.  Maybe look for potential collaborative projects. (Late January)

Jill will look for a date for a workshop at the end of January.

  1.  General meeting update of CRSA – Phil will cover this and provide the update.
  2. Homework – Everyone review the LRF (Library Research Fund) guidelines for the next meeting and come ready to discuss potential changes.
