LSA Exec - Minutes - August 2, 2018


 Library Staff Assembly (LSA) Executive Committee  Meeting Minutes:  

Date: 08.02.18 Thursday 

Time: 1:00-2.00 PM 

Location: 400B  

Attendees:

Brian Moss, Emily Beran, Evan Washechek, Meredith Huff, Sunita Gandhi (Alphabetical order  by names) 

Absentees:

Marla Schleuder 

Referring material: Library Governance Committee Final Report 2017-2018 

Minutes: 

Meeting started with Share Point issue as some members are not able to get the content. Share Point is  still clunky and Emily will report to Matt. 

Emily talked and discussed about the following points with reference to Library Governance Committee  Final Report 2017-2018: 

Standing Charges: 

-To go over to all the charges and decide which one to take 

-Designated Emily as liaison for LFA with unanimous decision 

-Defer the designation as liaison to Organization Development (OD) till Marla is back

Special Charges:  

-Emily provided information from the staff senate 

• They already gone to diversity trainings conducted by Charles Cody 

• Staff fellows projects-The staff development day was successful; End of the year action was to  go to admin for discussing ways to improve support for the staff 

• In coming September (date to be announced), the interim provost Carl Lejuez will be joining the  meeting solely intended for staff (as faculty and staff needs are different) where they all can  share, discuss and suggest 

• Tuition assistance for staff, faculty and dependents-planning to send a survey to get the better  idea of numbers 

LFSA: 

-Members for all the committees have been appointed 

-Liaison of all the committees have been appointed 

- Vice Provost Dr. Jennifer F. Hamer can come to talk more about diversity, equity and inclusion (dates  will be announced)

LSA: 

-Emily (Chair) and Marla (Vice-Chair/ Chair-Elect) met Kevin for a short meeting and mainly talked about  S&B special charges about inequity, and how to get support from the admin.  

Special Charges for LSA: 

-Continue to seek effective ways to explain the value of governance 

-See more effective ways to utilize bios and encourage voting in Library Governance elections -Discuss Staff Development Day logistics and who is involved in the planning moving forward -Encourage attendance at and gather information about staff needs prior to the Provost visit to Staff  Senate in September 2018 

-LSA should have strong representation as Salaries and Benefits carries out their special charges  regarding inequities 

Concerns: 

-Overlapping of the charges-Communication working group and a new working group is more of LFSA  charge 

-Lot of same people are in the governance 

-Lack of supervisors’ support 

-Not using the word patron for inclusiveness 

-Load of work on staff in case of hiring freeze as compared to faculty
