  2. LFA committee liaison roles/expectations:
    • Lea Currie will serve as liaison to SLPTR (Sabbatical Leave and Post-Tenure Review Committee)
    • Michael Peper will serve as liaison to LCPT (Library Committee on Promotion and Tenure)
    • Michael and Lea will both meet with their committees before August 1st and send names of the appointed chairs and secretaries of the committees to Andi
  3. LFSA (Library Faculty and Staff Assembly) Executive Committee Report
    • Call for volunteers of committees due Monday July 24th, 2017 by 5pm. Members need to be appointed by August 1st, 2017.
    • The KU Libraries Office of Communications & Advancement is going to consider a way to brand the various LFSA, LFA, and LSA committees to aid in clearer library communication and recruiting for library governance
    • Special charges were issued to LFSA committees (Nominating & Ballot, Salaries & Benefits, Code, Research & Scholarly Activity, and Planning & Resources) ---see LFSA notes from July 18th, 2017
    • Appointed LFSA executive committee chairs (Leah Hallstrom and Karna Younger Co-Chairs, Marla Schleuder Vice-Chair) and secretary (Andi Back)
  4. Report from meeting with Dean
    • Karna Younger and Lars Leon met with Dean Kevin Smith on Monday July 17th, 2017. In the meeting they discussed that the tuition assistance policy was altered once again, limiting tenured and tenure track faculty from participating in the program.
  5. Review of annual committee reports and special charges for committees
    • LCPT: Discussed ensued about the special charges proposed by the previous year’s committee related to adding a question and answer (Q&A section) to the LCPT webpage to serve as a location for answers to the most typical questions. After much discussion it was determined that no special charges would be proposed for the year.
    • SLPTR: Discussion about the three special charges found below, proposed by the previous year’s committee took place. The LFA executive committee approved number one with no changes, number two with a slight edit from best practices guide to a tip guide, and it was determined that number three had recently been completed and the information can now be found on the KU Libraries new staff intranet via SharePoint.
      1. We recommend that the 2017-2018 committee schedule the preliminary PTR informational meeting in August of 2017. This will continue the trend towards earlier dates as recommended by earlier SLPTR committees.
      2. We recommend that the 2017-2018 committee develop a tip guide for a successful PTR file. In addition to being posted on SLPTR’s webpage, share this information at the fall PTR meeting.
      3. We recommend that the list of library faculty members coming up for post-tenure review be kept up to date by Libraries’ HR since an accurate list is necessary both for the PTR process and for LFA elections.
  6. Review of the LFA executive committee report from 2016-2017 and special charges will take place at the next meeting Tuesday August 8th 1-2pm in Watson 400B.
  7. Adjournment
