LFSA Committee on the Code Meeting Minutes January 6, 2017

Present: Sara Morris, Marianne Reed, Heather MacBean (Chair), Mindy Babarskis (Secretary), and Sherri Brown (Member)

The meeting convened at 10:03 am on January 6, 2017 and the first order of business was to discuss how LFA recently passed a ballot measure to replace the Discipline Expectations for Library Faculty at KU with a new document titled Promotion and Tenure Procedures for the Faculty of The University of Kansas Libraries in the Code. The Committee on the Code debated whether replacing the name of the old document in the code is editorial in nature or needs to go to ballot.

After some discussion, it was decided that change was editorial in nature because the document is only referenced by title in the Code and the document itself was accepted and voted on by LFA.

After arriving at this decision, we moved to the second order of business, which was to discuss the timeline for replacing Discipline Expectations for Library Faculty at KU with Promotion and Tenure Procedures for the Faculty of the University of Kansas Libraries in the Code. Since the Dean of the

Libraries and the University Faculty Senate’s Committee on Standards and Procedures on Promotion and Tenure (SPPT) must approve this new document before it is official, we will wait until the process is complete before making these editorial changes.
